A Holistic Approach to Skin Care

I'm sure you've been seeing on social media and other outlets that skin care professionals and other industries are using a holistic approach to their field. What does this mean?

It simply means that industry professionals are viewing the body as a whole and how internal and external factors effect how our body functions and overall well-being.

It's taking the skin care industry by storm and it's how we approach things at Boji BAE Studio. There are so many factors that contribute to our skin's health and our well-being. Internal factors (diet, sleep, and stress management), external factors (pollution, sun protection, and product usage) and lifestyle choices play a vital role in how our body functions, including our skin. When you think about it, the skin is our body's first line of defense. It takes the good things in, and keeps the bad things out. Keeping it healthy is vital for it's protective functions.

Some things you can ask yourself: Am I getting enough sleep? Am I drinking enough water? Am I overly stressed? Could my diet be improved?

Tackling some of these issues, can drastically improve how our body functions. A lot of our issues simply stem from inflammation! If something is inflamed inside, more than likely, it will transfer outside. Take acne for instance (I will go over that in depth at a later date!). Acne is caused by P. Acnes bacteria and is often times linked to inflammation in the skin. Certain foods, hygiene and other habits can lead to inflammation inside and outside of the body.

By using a holistic approach, we can look for the root cause instead of slapping on a band-aid. Addressing these and giving you the products and tools needed for success will ensure you have long lasting results and see change in your skin.

As your esthetician, I will never give you medical or nutritional advice, but I will surely give you suggestions as to where you can start to look so you can make the best decisions for yourself! And I always recommend to take care of yourself and find time to address your stress levels. We all know times are HARD right now. Finding even a few minutes for yourself to read a book, meditate or any other way you like to find calmness in your world is so important! You deserve to take care of yourself and feel good! That's another reason why I recommend monthly facials. Not only because of the physical health aspect of your skin, but for your mental health. Human touch and connection can help to relieve stress.
